Finding time for exercise can feel impossible when you’re juggling the demands of motherhood. Yet, staying active is essential for energy, mood, and overall health. This post offers a quick, full body workout designed specifically for busy moms who want to stay fit without leaving home or spending hours on exercise.

Why a Full Body Workout Works Best for Busy Moms

When time is limited, workouts that target multiple muscle groups at once provide the most benefit. A full body workout:

  • Saves time by combining strength and cardio moves

  • Boosts metabolism for hours after exercise

  • Builds strength evenly to prevent injury

  • Fits easily into short breaks or nap times

This approach helps busy moms maintain fitness without complicated equipment or long sessions.

Preparing for Your Workout

Before starting, set up a small space where you can move freely. Wear comfortable clothes and have a water bottle nearby. If you have a yoga mat or towel, use it for floor exercises. This extra-thick yoga mat is a total lifesaver for my joints! The added cushioning makes a world of difference providing extra support for my knees & spine that standard mats just can't match. Despite the thickness, it's surprisingly stable & has a great non-slip grip, so I never feel like I'm wobbling during balance work. It's durable, easy to clean, & has a carry strap, making it easy to grab when you're on the go for overnight trips or vacations.

Warm up for 3-5 minutes with light movements like marching in place, arm circles, or gentle stretching. This prepares your muscles and joints to reduce injury risk.

The Quick Full Body Workout Routine

This workout takes about 20-30 minutes and requires no equipment. Perform each exercise for 60 seconds, then rest for 20 seconds before moving to the next. Complete three rounds.

1. Dumbbell Squats

Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding the dumbbells at your sides or on your shoulders. Lower your hips back and down as if sitting in a chair. Keep your chest up and knees behind toes. Push through your heels to stand. This dumbbell set available on Amazon is my favorite, having convenient storage for home use, great durability, comfortable grip, & a no-roll design.

Benefits: Strengthens legs, glutes, and core.

2. Push-Ups (Modified if needed)

Start in a plank position with hands under shoulders. Lower your chest toward the floor, keeping your body straight. Push back up. Drop to knees for an easier version.

Benefits: Builds upper body and core strength.

3. Glute Bridges

Sit on the floor with your shoulder blades against a stable bench or couch, knees bent, & feet flat. Lift your hips toward the ceiling, squeezing your glutes at the top. Lower down slowly. To increase difficulty level, use this Bellabooty Hip Thrust Belt.

The Bellabooty hip thrust belt is a total game-changer for anyone looking to build serious glutes without the discomfort of a heavy barbell. It has completely transformed my lower body workouts, making hip thrusts & weighted glute bridges comfortable, safe, & incredibly effective.

Benefits: Activates glutes and lower back muscles.

4. Plank Hold

Place forearms on the floor, elbows under shoulders. Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels. Hold the position, engaging your core.

Benefits: Strengthens core and improves posture.

5. Jumping Jacks

Stand tall, jump feet out while raising arms overhead, then jump back to start.

Benefits: Raises heart rate and improves cardiovascular fitness.

6. Standing Side Leg Raises

Stand tall, lift one leg out to the side without leaning. Lower and repeat, then switch legs. To increase level of difficulty, I use these resistance bands available on Amazon.

You can genuinely work every muscle group, from glute bridges & squats to shoulder presses & bicep curls with resistance bands. Unlike free weights, resistance bands provide continuous tension throughout the entire range of motion, providing a more intense burn & better muscle engagement, making them a much needed staple for home workouts.

Benefits: Tones hips and outer thighs.

7. Bicycle Crunches

Lie on your back, hands behind your head. Bring opposite elbow to knee while extending the other leg. Alternate sides.

Benefits: Targets abdominal muscles and obliques.

Tips to Stay Consistent

  • Schedule workouts like appointments to prioritize your health.

  • Involve your kids by turning exercises into games or challenges.

  • Use short bursts of activity throughout the day if 20-30 minutes isn’t possible at once.

  • Track your progress with a journal or app to stay motivated.

  • Celebrate small wins to build confidence and habit.

Adjusting the Workout for Your Needs

If you’re new to exercise, reduce the work time to 30 seconds and increase rest. For more challenge, add a fourth or fifth round or increase work time to 120 seconds.

Modify moves to accommodate injuries or limitations. For example, replace jumping jacks with step jacks or wall push-ups instead of floor push-ups.

Why This Workout Fits Busy Moms

This routine respects your limited time and energy. It requires no gym, no fancy equipment, and can be done while kids nap or play nearby. The full body focus means you get the most out of every minute.

By committing to just 20-30 minutes a few times a week, you build strength, boost energy, and improve mood. This workout supports your busy lifestyle without adding stress.
